Speculation: English Localization Issues?
#1
Back in 2016 or 2017, I remember reading a thread from the now defunct The Snake Soup Forums by DarthCaligula about how the script and voice direction for the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid 2 is much different from what the Anglosphere got, and was sort of shocked (but also not really) by how much context was changed. I did remember that in the Japanese version of MGS3, EVA whispers "Fukka you" to Volgin in English, while western releases had her say "Go to hell" instead (and strangely, even the English version of MGSΔ carried over the "dubtiles" even with the audio set to Japanese despite referring the Ape Escape characters to their Japanese names on the same settings).

Note that only the first 16 pages (and page 21) out of 23 of the thread itself were archived.

From the MGS2: Lost in Translation Hyper Edition thread by DarthCaligula:
Before that thread was made, Ravi Singh, also from The Snake Soup, wrote an article about how Big Boss was considered "sterile" in the Japanese version of MGS1 instead of how he was "in a coma" in the English version.

It's interesting to know that, even by the time MGS1 came out, localization for video games and anime has always been an issue amongst English-speaking otakus since the Working Design era of the 1990's (though I'd argue that it's a problem with the rest of the world, if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is anything to go by), and ever since Funimation added a GamerGate joke for the English dub of Prison School, the English localization debate has since become more political.
