I watched the new gameplay demo of SHF and it's very fascinating. I know the game isn't being made by Bloober Team, but it almost looks like it plays like Dark Souls, having you lock onto monsters and dance around them as you fight with melee weapons. The description above sounds like pure Dark Souls as well.
The atmosphere is certainly rich, the monster design is bone chilling and those flashes throughout have real Japanese horror vibes all throughout. Initially, I was a little concerned that having such a focus on combat will dilute the horror element at all. That was Silent Hill: Homecoming's biggest weakness; the combat kind of trivializing the monsters. Now, part of that was because the combat was insultingly easy and virtually any enemy can be stun-locked, but it looks like f doesn't have that problem at all. The enemies look absolutely vicious, there's stamina management so you can't just stun-lock enemies, and the fact that weapons can break could also incentivize you to not want to fight every monster you see. And if you get caught with your pants down, then unarmed, these things look like an absolute terror.
That 'boss' enemy certainly looked exciting as well. Like SH2Make, visceral and fun but still freaky as sin. Overall, I'm very optimistic about this game. I don't know if I'll like it more than 2Make, but I appreciate that it's completely original and that the gameplay looks quite fun without losing the horror at the heart of this series.
