Metal Gear Survive Is One Of The Games Of All Time
#1
I feel like talking about this game, and maybe we can start some discussion on it.

I'll just say to begin with I actually like Metal Gear Survive, and as of right now have 110 hours in it.  That doesn't mean I think it's a good game though really, it's just fun for me in the way that I can ignore all the glaring issues and focus on just shooting stuff and placing turrets.  But I'm a bit a particular kind of gamer I guess because if I can shoot stuff in the process of unlocking cosmetics, I'll probably enjoy it at least a little bit, because for me cosmetics and customization options are always the ultimate goal of any game.  Sure I play other games without character customization but it's always for some particular thing I like about the game that's hard for me to really put my finger on.

At least as far as Survive goes, I have really enjoyed unlocking stuff, hunting animals, building defenses around my base, and also seeing Sahelanthropus return was slightly cool, although it was in a destroyed state.  The story was pretty boring, but I was at least surprised by the plot twist.  Multiplayer missions are pretty fun, and extreme difficulty is a certain kind of difficult that for me is slightly stressful but pretty fun.  Overall have had fun playing it but have slowed down on it recently because all I'm working on at this point is unlocking cosmetic equipment color options, as well as doing stuff to unlock event items which can sometimes be cool.

Here's the first character I made:

Second Character with the discount zombie face paint the game gives you to start with, as well as the ocelot beret from the last event:

An aerial view of my base on my first character:

The single best cosmetic I ever unlocked on this game so far:

Closer view of the defenses around my base, which is one inner layer of sandbags and two layers of fences which are then surrounded by turrets.  Not actually as defensible and strong against enemies as it might seem:

Finally, this is what my main character normally looks like, just happened to have the sneaking suit on when taking that first screenshot:

Like I said, I have had quite a bit of fun with this game and have actually beaten it twice now.  I just wanted there to be some actual thread for this game on this forum even if it's mostly a game that just gets shit on.  Which depending on your perspective could be deserved.  I think it's a bit of a shameless cash grab by konami because they wanted to use that Fox engine some more and change up the ip a little bit hoping to make a new franchise of survival games.  But the survival in this game is only an annoyance, thus the game as it was intended by the developers isn;t actually fun in my opinion.  I got creative to be able to enjoy this game, as I would suggest anyone else do.  Still though it's possible you won't have any fun, even though I did and still do with this game.  I'm still actively playing mutliplayer for events and stuff which rotate,

I've seen comments before about how good the customisation options are in the game so I'm not surprised by you saying how much you enjoy it. Would be something I'd certainly like to see in any potential future MGO mode or adaptation. I thought it was decent in MGO2, was quite a challenge to get the higher-rated stuff or anything red. I never played Survive and doubt I will but it's interesting to see how you've managed to make it enjoyable for yourself.

I didn't hate Surviveance the way everyone else seemed to. I acknowledge that it wasn't the best call to make a zombie game after the fallout with Kojima and his team getting axed, but taken on its own, while it's absolutely not a Metal Gear game, as a zombie survival game, it's actually really fun. I loved the combat, I really liked the exploration and how much incentive there was to go out of your way in that game and get rewarded with things like classic Konami tracks or cool camo patterns. I enjoyed all three boss fights, just wished there were more of them.

I hated the soulless P2P aspects because if they had ditched them and let the game breathe, it could've been even better, like how base camp can turn into a fun tower defense with great rewards, but you had to wait for the next wave or just pay to speed it up, which was insanely scummy.

The foundation was there for something just fun and arcade-y. But Konami got really greedy with that game, and I chalk that up to their former mobile game loving CEO before he bailed.

And honestly, the customization in that game was top notch. Better than MGO2, in my opinion because the gear options were so much more unique. You could legitimately make your character look like an MGS OC, which was really cool. If Fox Hunt has customization, I hope it's half as good as Surviveance's was.

Kudos for trying to defend Survive a bit, dc.

For all the dunking on it I did actually pick up Survive second hand for like £3 on PS4 a year ago. I thought it's only right I try it at some point and see what the deal is. I thought it might be fun to try and get some people online for it and make a bit of an event of it...but then I've hardly had the time to play games I want to play that I know are definitely good so it's not exactly been a priority.

I understand fully why Konami thought to take MGSV's parts and try and do something with them. I just feel like this was one of the strangest ways to do that. Does it have any modes besides the main one? Does it have that MGS kookiness anywhere? Or is it literally just MGSV assets and gameplay used for zombie survival?

Just the mutliplayer which is like just point defense.  But you can at least unlcok stuff for doing it.  I would say they took out pretty much everything that makes it feel like metal gear and it's just more generic action survival game.  BUT there are cosmetics for ur character including the cat that sits on your head
