God of War: Laufey

God of War Laufey is an upcoming action-adventure game from Santa Monica Studio, scheduled for PS5 on February 16, 2027. It stars Faye, Kratos’s wife, as she battles through Everywhen, the gods’ afterlife, to protect her family. Set alongside God of War (2018) and Ragnarök, it introduces Egyptian and Mongolian mythology to the series.

I'm quietly intrigued by this because I really enjoyed the GoW reboots. Lots of potential here. The danger is it becomes a forgettable spin-off with no real depth. Who else is getting it?

Not sure on it, some of it looks OK but I love the weight that Kratos' combat has and the grounded nature of it. This looks good but I'm going to compare it to ARPGs with lighter, faster combat and I'm not sure it'll match up. I also really really hate games with annoying smartass companions that don't shut up and protagonists that continually talk to themselves. This might have a mixture of those. Kratos gets away from that because of his stoic nature but it seems to be quite regular with most other Sony protagonists.

I loved Ragnarok, and I have no doubts this will be excellent, but Q1 next year is already looking chocker. Stranger than Heaven is one I'm looking forward to in January, Persona 4 Revival, Tomb Raider and Fable all come out in the same month as Laufey and then you've got Final Fantasy VII Revelations out in the April.

Laufey ultimately probably ranks bottom of the list on my hype-o-meter sadly.
