Just finished mgs4. I'm really confused about Liquid Ocelot in between mgs 2- mgs 4. What did he try to do!? 

"Post shadow moses, Ocelot placed someone under surveillance as per Solidus's orders,[25] sold Metal Gear REX's test data to many nations via the black market (earning enough money for him to "buy a decent-sized country" in the process), and broke Naomi out of prison. At some point, he had his right arm replaced with Liquid's arm via an arm transplant surgery in Lyon, France, with Solidus presumably being involved in the funding.[26] During this time, he aided Solidus, helping him to go into hiding after the Patriots had planned to kill him. In order to fool the Patriots, Ocelot began to utilize a combination of psychotherapy, drugs, hypnosis, and nanomachines to become Liquid's mental doppelgänger which he manifested around Solid Snake to make it look like spiritual possession." 1. Now I really do not understand why ocelot needed to "fool" the patriots just before the events of mgs 2 only for him to work for them in mgs 2? 

2. Also, I finished mgs4 and there big boss explained in the end that Ocelot hypnothized himelf and took drugs to become liquid, because he wanted to fool the Patriots (as far as I understand, because they could shut down his PMCs if they thought it's ocelot...) This is all so confusing like I really don't get why before mgs2 he already became liquid. 

3. Ocelot — who had helped Solidus during the events of the first game, probably as part of his efforts to bring down the Patriots — seemingly agreed to cooperate with the Patriots again and use Solidus for their S3 Plan. Because of this, they allowed him to do what Solidus wanted as well, which was spreading Metal Gear technology onto the black market so they could generate enough money to finance the S3 Plan. What feels strange is that Ocelot agreed to this and helped them during the events of Metal Gear Solid 2 According to the wiki, why would he help them, what he gains from that if he want them dead...

I would really appreciate your help guys!
