MGS3 introduced the Camouflage system with various camo patterns and facepaints you can wear (you can find a list with pics here).
What were your favorites? Either for the aesthetics or for gameplay usefulness.
Were you unhappy that several patterns didn't return in MGS4, Peace Walker and The Phantom Pain?
Here are mine, anyway:
Facepaints:
- Splitter: I used it most of the time. Honestly I believe Naked Snake looks weird without it. I was bummed when Bluepoint forgot to render it in HD for the HD Collection. It was eventually fixed in the Master Collection Vol. 1, fortunately.
- Zombie: a striking visual.
Camo patterns:
- Spirit: eliminating Snake's footstep noise and allowing him to regain stamina by choking enemies are great abilities. If you combine it with the Stealth camouflage (invisibility) and the Infinity facepaint (unilimited ammo), you're truly unstoppable.
Trivia: the icon in the Survival Viewer is based on an older, unused version of the pattern and features tiny skulls.
- Moss: wearing it while using the Torch allows you to refill your Stamina gauge, removing the need to gather food.
- DPM: nice forest-like pattern, plus it allows Snake to double his HP recovery rate. You can take advantage of this to quickly obtain a full-size lifebar before fighting Ocelot.
- Desert Tiger: nice desert-like pattern (duh), plus unlimited suppressor use never hurts!
- Sneaking Suit: cuts down on damage taken/stamina loss and looks awesome to boot, especially during the fight against The Boss in the flower field.
- Urban Tiger: a grey version of Tiger Stripes
- Watersnake: looks closer to a snakeskin pattern than the Snake pattern IMO. Before MGS3 was released, there was a contest to have your own pattern featured in the game. I entered various patterns based on snake photographs. Obviously I didn't win (the people who submitted the Animals and Fly camos did IIRC). But I was happy that they designed a camo that was similar to my idea.
- Squares: I enjoy the red and black color scheme and it looks great in Rassvet.
- Santa: funny to sneak around while wearing it.
