Eight years ago, I made a youtube review channel back when I was still kind of in my forum mindset of "attack everything." I made reviews of every MGS game, almost none of which I stand by anymore, which is why I'm remaking all of them to give each game their fair due, especially since my thoughts have changed so dramatically since. For example, I really like MGS1 now, despite its many, many, many flaws. I like MGS4 and PW a lot more than I did back when I made those reviews too. Currently, the only review that accurately reflects how I feel is my newest Portable Ops review from 2025.

My MGSV review, however, is the one that got the most traction because it was the one I had the most to say. It was kind of a culmination of all my conflicting thoughts about what I loved and hated about MGSV wrapped into one 2 hour video. Apart from a few things, it's also the one I still stand by:

The main things I no longer stand by:

1. While I maintain that Phantom Pain's writing is solid, especially its plotline and how it's all interwoven into a larger tapestry, I don't think the game has the best writing of any MGS game at all. To be honest, I don't even personally know which game has the best writing because each game feels like a mix of unforgettable moments and characters but a whole that never quite matches the highs of what Kojima is going for. For me, DS2 is Kojima's best work as a writer by far, so it kind of put in perspective how little that title matters for me in MGS.

2. My negative thoughts on other MGS games that I listed are all dead wrong and don't reflect how I feel anymore. Something about hitting 40 and realizing how little most games hold my attention anymore made me really appreciate every MGS game so much more than I did in 2020.

3. I still love all of the boss fights but while I mention the lack of variety, I don't mention how almost every boss has methods that make them way too easy and that to enjoy each fight, I pretty much have to ignore those methods. Like how you can completely destroy all of the Skulls instantly by luring them near a turret gun. The multiple one-hit kill methods for Fire Guy.

4. I don't believe that wish-fulfillment in reviews is productive. We live in an age where that kind of critique can always be met with, "Then you just make that kinda game yourself then," and with all the available free tools to do so, there's little excuse not to. Though, I do maintain that the order of missions should've been changed, just from a screenwriting perspective. And that Eli never should've been in the game at all, especially when Demon Chico was on the table at some point in development and would've made way more sense to include after GZ, and his role in helping to bring the ship down.

There's probably some other things but that doesn't matter.

I think these days, I'd sum up my thoughts on MGSV as thus:

It's got problems galore and not every experiment Kojima toyed with paid off. Despite its endless amount of issues, it's the only game I've played in a decade that makes me feel like a kid when I play it, because once I start, I struggle to stop. Most critiques are either value or I outright agree with wholeheartedly, and I probably have some that most people don't consider, but from 2015 til now, MGSV was the only game that I kept coming back to years after the fact, just replaying missions and experimenting with them for fun. There are some things it does better than other MGS games, some things it does worse, but none of that takes away from my enjoyment. And I hope that a future title might implement more of Phantom Pain's design philosophy, while also addressing its glaring flaws to finally find that happy middle ground between old MGS and new MGS.

Anyway, if you can tolerate young 35 year old Keiv mumbling for two hours, here's something to play in the background while you file your taxes or need to be put to sleep.

It always struck me as odd that the game displays a trailer... for content that's immediately accessible thereafter. Or... in the case of the Paz subplot, already previously available. And the disarmament cutscene. I wonder - was the original plan to ship the game, let it conclude after the fight with Sahalenthropus, and then have subsequent story beats doled out as updates / DLC? I think that might explain why the last stretch is so oddly paced, fragmented and to many, feels incomplete.

what I do not get is how the Archaea realtes to the yellowcake, even more so to the malachite. I'm trying to also get why skull face had ZRS trasnporting these, the yellowcake and the malachite together on that truck...i'ts very confusing to me.

can someone explain their puepose? why transporting them? and to who? and the relation to the Archaea?

Why was this guy such a massive tool? I honestly don't know much about Peace Walker because I never been able to play it, though with the MGS VOL. 2 around the corner that'll change. But was he also a tool in that game too? I know Otacon said his family has a dark history, but I don't see Huey ever telling Otacon about his time being a total weenie. It really felt like, to me, that Huey was made to be this particular thorn for Diamond Dogs and served no other purpose other than to be a punching bag for problems he created. Is there any insight as to why Kojima went this route with Huey or is there some deeper meaning I'm not seeing?

Right so a question I've always had troubling the avenues of my mind in regards to MgsV is (and bare with me on this potential noobtastic question) the opening of the game. We see ourselves gradually waking up, Ishmael also still in his hospital clothes and then soon after we are attacked by Quiet and then Cypers lot. So what I am wondering is, the medic has just woken up from the surgery to turn him into Venom, has Big Boss just coincidentally woken up at the same time and Cypher has been looking since ground zeros and coincidentally discovered the location of the hospital? I feel like its very possible I missed some details, but if Big Boss had recovered before hand, was he just hiding out at the hospital practicing cqc on the orderlies? And if so for how long?

My theory is that perhaps the medics transformation and recovery took exactly that long, but big boss had already recovered and planned that once it was the right time he would somehow signal to cypher where the hospital was, but in a way that seemed like they had found it themselves, and plan an escape route for the both of them. He had to stay in order to ensure the medic escaped. Still seems like it raises more questions but interested to see what everyone else thinks.

[ANALYSIS] the state of PAZ's hallucination scenes

ok so as we know paz died in the ground zeroes in the result of a bomb inside her,
but later in mgsv:pp we can see some cutscenes with her being placed in a type of hospital room at the medical platform
in those cutscenes we see paz and will show her some old time pictures which could be obtained from completing some side missions( cant rememebr which but i guess those ones that states recovering our old soldiers from the mother base or some...)
and paz will describe for u whats going on in those pictures and then says something like her head hurts and lies sleep.
there are some number of elements in these intractions that caught my attention:

CAUTION:following features could be counted if we accept the medic theory which states ( as of in mission 46) we(venom) were that medic from the ground zeroes and the rest is history.

1-THE SPACE, that venom(medic) sees these hallucination in, is a hospital type of room but none of the tool's and medical gadgets are connected to paz , they are simply there like they have no use.
1.1= the first reason by which venom hallucinates in a space such this, a hospital kinda well equipped room is that he tries to make some sort of a excuse that if equipment and tools were right he could have saved paz.

2-THE CUSTOM, venom sees paz in a hospital type of custom , and im saying type of because i dont think just underwear and bra are used in hospitals for covering the patients, if you look at one of the photos in which you recover from side-ops and then will give to paz, you see her sun bathing while wearing the exact custom( a bikini ) but a bit different in terms of color at the beach of costa-rica and i guess maybe medic was one of the mother-base members that got to the beach the same day and saw her like that.

3-BODY LANGUAGE AND VOICE TONE( this element could easily be dismissed as paz was a spy and was traind to do these , sooo?!?!?)
venom sees paz with the body language of a innocent sweet girl, always happy to see snake , smiling all the time, telling the stories and talking in a deep spanish accent with a very low-tone and sweet type of intonation.

3.1-- i replayed ground zeroes like an hour ago and when i heard paz's voice in the tapes and cutscenes it was very different from the cutscenes and tapes of TPP the first reason as mentioned above could be her profession , or in the TPP we hear her like that cause we are hallucinating and we imagin her as a sweet innocent student who's name means peac and did nothing wrong and died partialy cause of us.

3.1.1= is TPP dialogues that paz says in her tapes on its own could mention that those scenes were hallucinations, she basically tells us what we wannna hear and how she was exited for the festival and mentions professor galvez(galves?!?),
which in truth ( the ground zeroes) she , who was a double agent recorded tapes for herself, and not to be discovered cause if anyone found out who she was, it was over for her. and in the GZ tapes she mentions zadornov not galves because galves was the name zadornov used to cover his real identity and well i guess the medic of those times and the venom of now was one the people who met this galves and didnt knew anything more about him so based on these information his brain arranged a hallucination and represent it to him.

4=GUILT, in one of the later cutscenes in this sequence, you enter the room while paz's stomache and the wound has been covered in blood and kaz or ocelot( cant exactly remember,) says that she did this to herself and her wounds are self-inflcited,
this could mean venom is trying to lift the guilt of paz's suffering from himself and saying that she played part in the sufferings that came her way including how she died.

0.0= at the end like most of hallucinations, brain tries to form this experience from what the person knows or at least loves to know or believe.

so venom sees paz extracting the bomb out of herself and then it explodes( cant again remember either it explodes or fades to light and the firefly cutscene). this could mean from my view that by extracting the second bomb paz kinda forgave the medic from the mistake that he didnt noticed the second bomb and at the result the explosion happend.

so thats my take , im pretty sure i missed some notes in this sequence cause im dwelling with sleep and my eyes and my vision are super tired right now and was kinda ocd when writing this, feel free to share yours , thanks for reading.

ok so mission 46 the man who sold the world that im sure everyone played tells that we are not the real bis boss but instead we are his phantom and tells us about quiet's true identity and the rest is well known
for me its very satisfying and believable but i saw some weird speculations around the internet that " yea this is not the true ending to mgsv:pp , do you remember that Nietzsche quote from the beginning that say's there's not facts but interperation" and im like this quote can be said about literally everything in the world, you cant speculate and about everything in the world and then check yourself to the nearest mental hospital and then they give you their interpretation of your behavior and put you in an illusion of cure and what not...
im not here to talk about this quote of Nietzsche but im here to say kojima fans are taking high dosage of this Nietzsche quote and its not healthy.
kojima can post a picture of his hard dick in instagram and fans will start speculate what is its metaphorial meaning ;
" ok guys hear me out , so koji the og posted a sophisticated hard definition picture of his hard dick and im like yo what is the meaning behind this , and then after an hour this came to my mind that maybe he wants to give a hint to a new metal gear right , so what does dick represents in mgs world, of course it represents snake so what does erected dick represents? of course the rising of snake and who is the snake ? big boss omg omgggggggggg
so here is the formula guys : koji the og in instagram posts : hard*(snake)+erected*(dick)=metal gear solid 6 rise of the snake (cock) eater
and guess what, how long is koji's dick? you guessed it 7meters which means new trailer will be out 7 months from now but not really its gonna cum in tga in about a month "

thats the type of psychotic shit that people get from kojima stories, i mean c'on its a magnificent game yes but its not a psychoverse to be this complicated and vague , people make it vague with random and meaningless speculations, the story has layers to it . yes i know but some speculations are just hallucinogenic, if anyone thinks gta 6 fandom are high on lsd then i guess they never met those who worship kojima and think his games are holy dogmas that shape our world, i know he is a genius and his games especially mgsv:pp is a magnum opus through the gaming history forever but giving this amount of random thought is the least to say "weird".

everything that mission 46 sound like truth to me and i dont know why would kojima wants to lie in that sequence , like he wants to take the truth to mgsv:pp story with himself to the grave ?!?!?
ok so my post just bacame a rant and i guess its fair ,
kojima is a genius through gaming industry and mgsv : pp is his magnum opus and its magnificent
but its not something thats IMPOSSIBLE for human brain to understand, its multilayered but its not like the secret to immortality ?

"I'm afraid it's been...nine ten years."

Today marks 10 years since Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain released.

A lot of us discussed our thoughts on the game back when it released on the old site but after a decade I thought it might be nice to get a bit retrospective and discuss what we think of the game now that it's older than Portable Ops was when it released.

Have you played MGSV since its release? As time's gone on have you found your opinion of it has grown or diminished? Is it a game you still think about or did you find you moved on from it quickly? How do you think the industry has changed since it's release, for better or worse?
I don't have time to type up my thoughts right this moment but thought I'd get the OP posted to give everyone a chance to mull it over!

Today marks 10 years since Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain released.

A lot of us discussed our thoughts on the game back when it released on the old site but after a decade I thought it might be nice to get a bit retrospective and discuss what we think of the game now that it's older than Portable Ops was when it released.

ok so here it goes
as we know the parasite plays an extremely important role in the lore of mgsv:pp
and its a type of bio-weapon that includes these symptoms: (please on your good will add or delete symptoms because i might have missed or added some by mistake)
1- infects a certain group ( based on language/mothertongue/race or...)
2-the infected person will not realize it got infected till the virus gets its core deep into the body organs ( lungs ?!)
3- it has a maker ( didnt came out of thin air)
4- the core of its pandemic process is speech and air of course
5- physical signs will be visible when already virus has got controll of the body
6-has a vaccine ( dont remember this part but i guess it was in the game)
7- could be used to make a super soldier and save him/her out of lethal injuries ( in quiet case of course)- and yeah it has defenitley some serious side effects ( made quiet the quiet we know, literraly)
...........................................................................................................................
ok so these were all the symptoms i could think of. as mentioned above feels free to concern yours.
OPINION (self):
i dont know that much about bio-weapons and shit but he closest thing i can make of is a comparison between COVID19 and the parasite so here goes nothing :
1-both have a maker ( i dont think a virus such as corona that shook the world on that level and emptied the places that were populated up to the throat and nobody would have thought such venues- squares and town streets get empty like a desert till the judgment day- came out of thin air
1.1-no one know for certain who made it ( roll your eyes plz )
2. both gets pandamised through the air ( parasite by speech- corona by coughing-sneezing)
3- both have vaccines ( so there is a way back, thank god )
4- the infected person in both might not get acknowledged of being infected till late ( in the beginning of the pandemic of corona when the death toll was high and for i guess a loong time no one knew what are we dealin with, i guess we all heard that symptoms varies and some had covid without even knowing and some even died not knowing they got died because of covid or when the symptoms would have came to the surface and people got sneez and cough and fever and... it was too late or the infection was in a advanced stage that could prolong the recovery period)
5- both had it lethal cores deep in the lungs ( by making the breathing process hard for the patient)
.......................................................................................................................
DISADVANTAGES of covid compare to parasite :
1- no super soldier shit
2- couldnt be centralized ( i mean the parasite infected who the makers wished but the covid cut even the hand of it allllegggged makers

ADVANTAGES : none that i know of.

share your take and of course this is just a silly thread not much, do not take it seriously
