Surprised there isn't a thread for this already. Game of Thrones facilitated a solid 85% of all forum arguments back on old MGSF - shoutout to Henry for trying to psyop us all into thinking Jon Snow was a good character and not just temu Aragorn.

I've had a severe hyperfixation on ASOIAF and it's associated media for the past month or two, in no part due to the debut of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Excellently made and it feels like a true return to form to GoT Season 1 - Season 4 quality - and it is very faithful to the Egg & Dunk novellas.

I watched House of the Dragon's first season when it debuted, but i'm just not feeling it. They stripped the source material of its teeth with this one, and are trying to over simplify and make a very complicated story more appealing to a general audience. They've also created one of the most annoying sub-fandoms i'v ever seen.

Aegon the Conqueror is getting a movie. That should be interesting, i'm very curious how well this IP performs in the box office vs the silver screen.

The film is racking up rave reviews and fan reception has been really high. It seems like the sentiment is that people didn’t expect to be as good as it is.

I saw it yesterday and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t blow me away. It was tense, emotional and generally well put together. But weirdly I thought Gosling’s performance was slightly off compared to his usual standard.

I also thought some of the jokes were a bit flat. Like, not to a terrible or cringeworthy degree. But a lot of predictable and “flat” banter IMO.

I reckon I give it about 7.5/10 on first viewing.

These films aren't about crime, but they are about criminals. I've seen the first two, will be watching the third later on today.

Incredible Danish crime trilogy, started by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive).

Some of the rawest, realist movies I've seen so far in my life.

Mads Mikkelsen is INCREDIBLE in the first two, and the second film has perhaps my favourite ending in a crime thriller since I first saw The Godfather and Scarface.

Anyone else seen and enjoyed these movies? I feel like I'm going insane trying to tell people about them. Really hoping the trilogy sticks the landing.

The witching season is tapping at our chamber door! This topic may be a little bit late but I'm curious what films or shows you guys have watched this year to get into the spirit? (Or ones that you usually do?)

This year I watched Fright Night (1985)

It had been on my list since playing Death Stranding Director's Cut as it's one of the data chips you can collect (still so random to just have a bit of info about some films as a collectible, but I'm missing them in the sequel rn). A friend messaged me recommending it recently which put it back on my radar and while I'm not at home this month (and so haven't watched many films) I did manage to get back and have a big night in with my girlfriend a few weeks ago where we put it on. It's about a boy who, after a vampire moves in next door to him, enlists a well known vampire hunter...actor. Local TV host Peter Vincent who has never met a real vampire in his life. The special effects are great, the soundtrack is brilliant, and it's so 80s. Incredibly fun watch and an unabashedly horny vampire film in a very sincere way (weirdly aren't that many of those off the top of my head?), look no further than this club scene:

I watched it in a double bill with Weapons (2025) (not putting the poster as I'm sure you've all seen it everywhere) which I really enjoyed but felt less Halloween-y for whatever reason (maybe just due to it being modern? Everyday we stray farther from Halloween's light). I was aware there'd been a lot of hype around this one but knew next to nothing about it which was the perfect way to see it. Never saw the director's previous film but I remember that being a bit divisive. Might check it out at some point.

I usually enjoy watching a slasher film or some franchise trash too around Halloween but it's not the kind of thing I'd really pop on when on my own these days. Films like that are more for group watching and it's a waste watching them alone I feel.

Maybe I'll squeeze one in tomorrow, who knows?

Thought a topic for manga and anime wouldn't go amiss given there's quite a few of us who are fans.

I've been watching New Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt. The original show was one of the ones that helped get me into anime. Was the first I watched subbed as there was no dub on at the time and I became a big fan. It ended on a cliff-hanger after one season in 2010 and so the news of it finally getting a second season after over a decade was super exciting when it was announced. I was a bit worried that maybe I'd grown out of the show's humour given I was ~15 when I watched it, but thankfully I'm really enjoying the new one. A relief as it would have felt a bit sad if I watched it and was like 'lol this sucks' after waiting so long for it. Feels surreal to finally have a continuation and it's fun to be tuning in and have the internet discussing the show again (especially since all my IRL friends I used to talk to about it I'm not friends with anymore)

It's 2010 and I'm watching an anime called Panty and Stocking, playing a new Big Boss MGS game, and posting on an internet forum.

I'm also very excited that the Chainsaw Man film is finally out next month. Seems ludicrous that even that is something I've been waiting 3 years for. In a way it almost feels too long to wait but I'm gonna try and rustle up a group to go and see it in the cinema. I think this arc will work really well as a film. If you've not given Chainsaw Man a go yet you should watch the first season quickly in time to catch the film in the cinema-I'm sure it'll be worth it!
A24 are set to produce an Elden Ring movie with Alex Garland heading up screenwriting.

This is honestly bananas(where's the Donkey Kong movie at?!), Garland is hit and miss to the extreme, but his most recent efforts I've been pretty impressed with. Weirdly, also think it's 100% the correct choice to avoid somebody with a lean to Fantasy fiction backgrounds in their credits, this is a project which could so easily (and may well be still) bogged down with constant fluff. Simultaneously, if they retain the more nuanced and subtle storytelling aspects of Fromsoft (and before any of you smart-asses make the joke - no, I do not mean the main character reading 12 pages worth of item descriptions to decipher who sucked off who), this could be a truly rich film.
