XOF/Skullface in Delta - Dirty Duck - 24-03-2025

The devs have obviously stated that they're wanting to stick close to the original with this remake. No new lines recorded as far as I know unless they've commented on that since? Regardless there clearly is NEW content in this game as has been shown with camouflage patterns and pre-order items and the addition of new "I Like..." options at the start of the game. But none of this makes any changes to the story of the original game.

MGSV added the retcon that XOF was FOX's clean-up crew, with Skullface following closely behind Naked Snake to get rid of any trace of American activity during Operation Snake Eater. One change that Delta could add that wouldn't affect the story majorly and wouldn't require any new voice lines is adding signs of this. Small moments where if the player doubles back on themselves at the right moments they can catch just a glimpse of this going on. An XOF soldier collecting shell casings, cigars, any other equipment the player might have used. Maybe even pre-MGSV Skullface.

This obviously would only really veer into easter egg territory but I know a lot of people aren't too keen on MGSV and maybe don't want to see any of its influence on Delta. What do you guys think? I personally think it's a small enough thing that it wouldn't be too egregious, and I'm more interested in seeing them do little changes as opposed to just giving MGS3 an Unreal Engine coat of paint.

Please, no TOUCHING

But moreover, I don’t think they care enough to have the attention to detail anyway

I'll accept 1 singular XOF Kerotan and nothing more.

I mean I'm not especially excited for this remake but the man in charge has a long history with Kojima and Metal Gear rather than just some Konami suit. I want to believe that he cares even if the faceless entity in charge doesn't.

I will take seeing Skull Face creeping behind a tree to stare at Snake through the window during his award ceremony.

STOP they've retconned XOF into MGS3??

Edit: I read very poor :c

I'm mostly indifferent to the idea, but I would shake my head a few times if it happened

I thought it was a bit strange that they put XOF in mgs3 to begin with. After all if XOF cleans up after FOX, who cleans up after XOF? If XOF doesn't need people to clean up after it, why have FOX at all? Just use XOF.

It’s not that XOF were better able to complete the mission without leaving a trace. FOX were an espionage unit and both the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater are supposed to be solo infiltrations during a time of great tension. XOF was Zero’s way of ensuring that, on the global stage, that those infiltration missions were completed successfully and completed with no trace. XOF essentially break the rules of what the mission is supposed to be. They’re Zero’s dirty little secret to ensure FOX missions are successful. They follow behind from afar and clean up stuff like shells and maybe even the drone left behind by Snake. Snake’s mission is important and time sensitive, they make sure he completes it while also dealing with stuff that he doesn’t have time to make a priority. Zero essentially rigged it so that what’s supposed to be a solo run was secretly being done co-op. It bolsters the legend of his star operative in America and ensures the mission meets the Soviet’s requirements of one disciple of The Boss being allowed onto their soil to kill her.
