Fighting Games - Helikaon - 17-10-2025 So, a few years ago, I became interested in fighting games.I blame the Two Best Friends Play YouTube channel for that, especially Woolie. I dabbled a bit with fighting games in my early teen years, with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, but it was never really a genre I got all that into. That all changed in the run into Street Fighter 6's release, during which time I returned to Mortal Kombat and tried out a few other fighting games. Street Fighter 6 (and somewhat connected, MvC) is probably the game I've enjoyed the most over the last decade. I love playing it and recently bought it for my PS5 as well. I did have it on Xbox Series X, but I donated that console to my little brother when his PS4 broke, and I knew I was getting a PS5 to replace it (I'm a SONY guy at heart, haha). I love everything about fighting games. The competitive nature (which is nuts, because I'm not a competitive person at all), the art design and graphics, the music (ESPECIALLY THE MUSIC!), how much dedication it takes to 'get gud', how you don't even need to get good to have fun, sometimes and depending on the game. And definitely the community aspect. There's a barcade in my local town that runs SF6 and TEKKEN 8 nights every fortnight, and I've started going to a couple and made some new friends, even if I do have to eat a little shit about my skills (or complete lack thereof, 3 or so years into this journey, and I've only won maybe a handful of matches, either online or in person.) I'm a Cammy and Akuma main in SF6! I'm addicted, basically. Anyone else a fan of fighting games? Maybe we could set up some bouts? RE: Fighting Games - Dirty Duck - 17-10-2025 Love fighting games with a passion and they're definitely the game I get the itch to play the most if it's been a while. Have so many I'd love to dedicate so much time to and then I barely even manage to play one sometimes. On Christmas Eve me and @Jassassino unlocked every Tekken 4 character with his brother and then played some Soul Calibur II. Was the highlight of Christmas for me and I thought SCII seemed like a game I wanted to learn properly. Do you have the NSO+ on Switch 2? It's part of the GameCube Classics selection. Either way I'd definitely be down for some SF6 one day soon-hotel wifi permitting 😱 What's everyone's thoughts on Miary Zo in Tekken 8? I've seen some real vitriol about her calling her a gooner character lmao. I don't think anything about her seems that low brow. I like that Ogre is being acknowledged on some level again. If I had a nickel for every time a former Tekken boss character was now a powerset for a female character etc etc RE: Fighting Games - Helikaon - 17-10-2025 (17-10-2025, 09:14 PM)Dirty Duck Wrote: Love fighting games with a passion and they're definitely the game I get the itch to play the most if it's been a while. I don't think I've checked out the GameCube bit yet, though. I played a bit of that back in the day! Miary just seems like a typical female fighting game character to me. They're (generally) all hyper-attractive, lmao. RE: Fighting Games - Null - 17-10-2025 Historically I’m a huge fighting game fan. In practice I play way less these days than I use to, which saddens me a great deal. Third Strike is probably my favourite of all time, but I have a lot of affection for IV as well. I played Third Strike in arcades as well as on console. Yang was my main, and sometimes Sean. On IV, it was Cody/Guy. I also have extremely fond memories of Tekken, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve become less interested in it. Still love its art style, lore and characters though. Tekken was the first ever fighting game I owned for my PlayStation back in 96’ so I think it’ll always be special to me. I think part of why I love Street Fighter 6 so much is that Super Street Fighter II was one of the first games I ever played, way back in the day on MegaDrive! I also have huge affection for elements of Tekken, and I played a shit tonne of Tekken 3 and Tag! RE: Fighting Games - Aragorn - 18-10-2025 Huge FG guy. MK1, SF, Tekken - all of it. I hit blue in Tekken 8 then hopped off, and I think I was Diamond II in SF6? MK1 I hit Elder God a few times. Might reinstall SF6 and dick around with C Viper a bit. She seems very, very cool - and would be a nice change of pace from Bison & Ed who are my mains. Bro ![]() I love fighting games, have been a huge Tekken stan my whole life, but something about T8, no matter how much I played to try and get into it, felt really off and didn't hook itself into me as much as I'd have liked. I think the franchise is leaning more in a direction now that I find less appealing than what it once was, which felt like this great 80's/90's Hong Kong action film and Shounen Manga mix - that's also not to mention the quite frankly appalling choices they've made with a lot of T8's content both launch and post-launch, and absolutely boring DLC seasons (Lidia's moveset was massacred and I'm immovable on this subject (still, watch me get T9 on launch day again though like an absolute simp)). Still really enjoyed a lot of my time with T8, and loved hosting the tournament on MGL. Really liked playing SCII, think it's a game I'd love to learn too. Same with the Dead or Alive series, just genuinely wish there was an option to turn off the gooner parts so I could play it without feeling ashamed. Also just to say it here - I was an absolute simp for Tekken 4 and would defend it to the death before it became fashionable for every other FG youtuber to do so these past two years. They can all get fucked!!!!! I'm the OG Tekken 4 lover!!!! RE: Fighting Games - Agent - 18-10-2025 I've been a Tekken player since 5.0, I think when it works it's the best game in the world. Sadly, Tekken Project share one brain cell between them and mostly make bad decisions. It's a miracle we ever got 3-4 decent games out of them. The development of Tekken 8 has been a gross mockery of anything that was ever good about the series, and Harada/Murray/Ikeda would be sentenced to death in a just world for what they've done. I'm not into 2D fighters but I dabble in SF, Third Strike is my favourite. I've enjoyed SC2 in the past and i'm praying that the next Virtua Fighter project is good. RE: Fighting Games - Aragorn - 18-10-2025 S1 of T8 was good tbh. Azu was a war crime and so was Dragunov but it was still good. RE: Fighting Games - Helikaon - 24-10-2025 I'm slowly getting back into Mortal Kombat. When did they make the leap back to 2D? I have MK XL, 11, and 1 as all three were on sale last week at a hefty discount for the definitive editions . I prefer 11, so far, but I've only played like 2/3 hours split between the latter two, and I only bought XL because I knew that Predator and Alien were two of the guests. I've landed on Scorpion as my main so far, but I'm eyeing Noob Saibot as well. Also dipped my toe into the two Injustice games. I actually got help boosting the Injustice 1 online trophies, haha. |
