I finally smashed out Zero (which I never finished previously) then replayed the 1, 2 and 3 remakes and currently in the midde of the 4 remake. The og trilogy got added to Steam recently so I'll give those a replay too soon. RE: What are you playing? - NateDog - 11-04-2026 Started and finished Silent Hill on my Vita. Its page on the PS3 webstore labels it as a psychological thriller rather than a horror and that's probably fair, but it still felt like way more of a horror to me. Despite the blocky PS1 graphics I have to say it really nails its atmosphere, I felt far too uneasy at varying points, specifically the first time when you head outside and it is pitch black and you realise just how difficult it is to navigate. I found myself just trying to evade and run away from enemies here far more than I typically would in a Resident Evil game which is one of those things that differentiates this from RE. I do have to say that I found it really, really awkward to play in certain places. In general the camera is utterly dreadful and unpredictable so you really have to just suck it up and get on with it if you're going to play it. I managed fine with it but can see why some people would just put it down. I did find a couple of sections really irritating too, namely the last two boss fights. Well the latter was just kind of really terrible design because I couldn't see the boss the entire time, and the fact that melee weapons can't hit it and that there is that "glitch" that means if you run out of ammo the fight ends is probably a testament to that (I'm guessing that may have been an active design choice because what were you going to do otherwise?). The former was just difficult because I had little health options and you almost need to stand directly in front of them to shoot at them but you then leave yourself too open to getting taken apart yourself. Not really sure how I managed it as I had actually turned it off in irritation initially and said I was done. But, those gripes aside, I liked where the story went and I can see why there's a lot of love for the game despite its issues. I can't see myself playing it again any time soon but I'm already on the lookout for a copy of Silent Hill 2. |
