Coyote vs Acme is getting really good reviews, I remember reading somewhere Lord and Miller really loved it. I really hope Ketchup who acquired from Warner's scrap heap make a profit on it.

I almost feel an obligation to go see it as a "fuck you" to David Zaslav.

Watched Dogma. Having seen a lot of people saying this is arguably Kevin Smith's best movie, I'm just glad that I haven't seen anything else by him. Maybe given I'm from Ireland and have seen/heard people making fun of Christianity/Catholicism regularly in a humorous way makes this a bit of a different prospect to me more than others, but I thought it was really boring, to the point that I fell asleep twice during it. Good cast too but dialogue/script is awful, everything is so stiff and overdramatised.

I remember liking Dogma (though I don't recall anything about it) but remember liking Mallrats and Clerks (especially Clerks) more. Having worked retail, Clerks really speaks to me. Also, the dialogue was outstanding. Especially the Start Wars stuff.

I watched Dogma the other day and actually quite enjoyed it. I think his films are clever enough to be interesting for a stoner comedy but never feel like they're trying be "elevated" (which I class as a plus). I think Kevin Smith is a really interesting director to be honest-need to rewatch Clerks but always felt like that was a real poster child for DIY low-budget filmmaking for a long time.

A few days after watching Dogma I also watched Chasing Amy for the first time as it was one of the VHS I bought when I got that ~50 large collection. I'd routinely heard it was a super misogynistic film and given certain moments in Clerks I thought that seemed believable but honestly after watching it I found the misogynistic reading as incredibly surface level. I'd say it's a strangely forward thinking and progressive film for the 90s, and it feels like a director directly addressing his own problematic thought patterns and prior films. Was pleasantly surprised.

I've heard Clerks is good. I dunno, I didn't find this engaging at all. I didn't think it was trying to be too smart but there were some scenes that gave me that feel.

Worth noting I hit my girlfriend's weed vape about a third of the way into the film when I stopped and considered the kind of film it was-but I was enjoying it prior to that.

"The Big Kahuna" and "Glengarry Glen Ross" are two films I adore immensely. They're basically set in one room and the characters just talk. I'd liken Clerks to those films but replace business men with high school underachievers and it still works. I think calling it a "stoner classic" does it a disservice. There's some very 90s stuff in there that hasn't aged well but the majority still stands up really well. Considering the budget, the lengths he went to in order to get it made and the unfortunate stench of Kevin Smith being high on his own supply for decades, it's still a great piece of work.

I watched Glengarry Glen Ross last month, felt it was more suited to the theatre but some incredible performances in it nonetheless. I'll give Clerks a go.

It was adapted from a stage play. So was The Big Kahuna. And they both star Kevin Spacey.

I love all the performances in GGR. He's only in it for one scene but Alec Baldwin's scene (not in the stage play) is my favourite scene. "Second prize is a set of steak knives. " Pure administrative cruelty. Also, Shelley Levine is the inspiration for Gil in The Simpsons.
