Metal Gear Forums - Why the patriots did these things? hard questions.

3 questions:

1.Why they even included their names to begin with in GW? I got to the point where ocelot explains that the whole thing was staged to create a soldier on par with solid snake, and use that info of that event to create as much snakes as needed.
but why they even need the virus to begin with? they could just not included their names in the GW to begin with...

2. also, was everything staged? i mean, the fact that raiden learned from ames where the president is, the fact that raiden learned about gw from president jhonson, and the virus which he found and later needed to install were all predtermined events? or was the virus really a failsafe plan if raiden doesn't stop solidus in time? But then again as i asked in my first question, why even use a virus if they could just not include their names to begin with?

3. why build arsenal only to risk it and GW to get destroyed by solidus/virus? do they want to control the public opinion at all?

It was all a carefully curated plan to test how The Patriots can control the narrative in the Information Age and control people's actions by dictating what context is created around events. The part of GW affected by the virus is not the entire system, but instead a partition of the system that was being used as part of the S3 program. It, and Arsenal Gear, isn't actually important to The Patriots. Both were theatrics to see how they could control the outcome of the events. It was all staged. The entire thing was essentially a testing ground for aspects of The Patriots plans that were more important than anything going on in the Big Shell.

i see! so you mean that s3 was the importnat part while GW and arsenal are disposable? even though the GW will control the flood of information around the world, they didn't care about it for real?

Think of it like they had a backup of GW they used for this. They didn't risk the actual system, just the backup.

Just to make sure i get you right: they made Emma create GW just for Raiden to have a mission to stop solidus because the knew solidus will want to seize Arsenal and GW..that way create a another "snake"?

The worm cluster Emma made was all part of it and the AI claims to have been perfected after it was used. They had a system in place to stop the virus destroying the entire GW and everything that happened was planned by them. Also, the idea of creating a new Solid Snake was what Ocelot thought the S3 program was-the Solid Snake Simulation. In reality it's the Selection for Societal Sanity and the aim isn't to make another Snake at all but to affect society and individuals within it to take actions planned for them by The Patriots. They used the data and results of the incident to perfect GW, which was always their plan. Everything else meant little to them.

got it! thanks! but why they care so much about this GW to not get fully destroyed?

I don't think it's ever confirmed but given the fact that the AI throughout all of MGS2 was running via GW I'd say for them to make use of the data for the S3 Plan from the system it would have to still be somewhat intact and couldn't be completely fried.
