Hello! This is the first of our "Cardboard Box Vox Pops", where we get the general consensus of the forum on some simple questions.

I hope this is a sting to ban the uncouth swine who'd vote for Big Boss.

You say that, but I've read many takes saying Zero is the villain of the series and Big Boss the hero. They'll say Snake is a villain since he worked for Zero and fought Big Boss.
They're wrong of course.

Tell me they ignored or misinterpreted the messages and themes of MGS 2 and 3, without telling me they ignored or misinterpreted the messages and themes of MGS 2 and 3.
I've seen that take a lot, too. Particularly on Reddit. Baffling to me. Maybe it's an age thing? I started with MGS1 back in 1998 or maybe 1999 (depends on when the game released here in Europe), so it's always been clear to me that Solid Snake is the main character and hero of the series. Maybe I'd feel differently if I started with Snake Eater or Peace Walker?
Maybe right about the age thing. I mean didn't Big Boss kind of say he was in the wrong before he died in MGS4?
Then again it seems MGS3 is the favorite of the fanbase as a whole and, let's face it, the game about Big Boss's descent into villainy has had three attempts and Kojima kept danicng around it.
Solid rocked everyone's world, especially mine <3
Solid's narratively cooler but I think his problem is most of his games are stuck on the fucking MSX and PS1. Assuming the median age of the kind of people you'd be discussing this with online; their only real exposure to Solid as a protag is MGS4. Compare and contrast with the BB prequels.
Big Boss was my introduction to the series with MGS3 back in the day. Since then always had a sweet spot for him. As a character I think there is more to him than Solid. So yeah, just personal preference there. Oversll I enjoy the BB games more than SS ones.
