Really enjoyed Roadside Picnic when I read it about 2 years ago, it was sort of the only thing I could think about for a few weeks after finishing it lmao. Think it was particularly good at making me really care for the characters in these depressing scenes and set pieces, moreso than a lot of other books.

I finally started reading A Wizard of Earthsea last night as a break from Sci-Fi/Sci-Fi-Fantasy after the Thrawn Trilogy... and I fell asleep before I finished page 1... LOL. In my defence here, I've been working a tonne of overtime lately to prepare my bank account for the Christmas period, and the burnout is very much catching up with me fast.

I'm also going through a period of writers block, like immediately upon getting back into something I'm working on. No pressure but if you can remember, I'd love to know how/if War of Art works for you because I'm starting to consider drastic measures (entire bottle of whisky).

I'm about halfway through it at the moment, but it's already helped me a lot. It basically boils down why we don't create into one simple word: Resistance, and then spends the rest of the book (so far) examining Resistance as a concept and an enemy to be conquered. It's helped me immensely so far, recognizing patterns in my creative life that are undermining me. I've also been writing nonstop, both my coursework and my personal writing, since I first started reading it, so something is working, haha.

I've started reading Howl's Moving Castle as a cinema I'm a member of has a book to film reading club and that's their book for the month. I'm a big fan of the film so this should be interesting and I feel like it'll hopefully be a fun thing to do as I've never been part of a reading group (outside of uni I guess). It's been a long time since I've even tried to read some longform prose so my attention span is likely #shot but I read the first few chapters before bed the other day and I'm already finding it interesting how differently it starts.

Also reading Terry Pratchett's Hogfather alongside @Jassassino this month to get into the xmas spirit. Maybe you could read it too if you've got a gap in your reading schedule!

Leelee adores the movie so I got her the lovely Folio edition of the book a couple of years back. Have to ask her how she found it as I'm curious about it too.
