Hiya! I'm a fan of the series but I've only really gotten into it in the last 2 years. I much prefer forums to the modern social media platforms so when I learned that I had missed out on what i'd heard was a great forum i was pretty disappointed. So, when I learned (about 15 minutes ago) that a actually somewhat active revival of the forum was around, I had to join. Here's hoping that this forum actually stays active!

You and me both! Welcome to the forum! Where did you hear about it? And what made you get into the series 2 years ago? Was Delta announced by then? (Honestly don’t remember exactly when it was revealed lol)

I can't remember exactly where I heard about the forums, I'm pretty sure I literally just searched up mgsforums one day lol. I first got into the series after reading about it online, the gameplay seemed good and the plot seemed interesting, if a little crazy. MGS2 in particular sounded right up my alley, I'm a sucker for video essays and max derrat's videos on it piqued my interest. I started with the master collection, and out of the three solid games included I played sons of liberty first. I genuinely think it's the best piece of media I've consumed period. I think about the ending of that game literally every day. (oh and to answer your question yes, I'm pretty sure delta was announced by then)
Welcome Steve! Every time I read the name Steve I think of this part in Mass Effect 3 so I'll always think of you as STEEEEVE

I personally think of the most famous Steve in video games.
Welcome St3ve!
Welcome, st3ve! Hope you'll stick around!
Welcome to the forums St3ve! Hope you enjoy it here
Oh yeah, have you guys seen the last few posts on the tapatalk forum? They've all been advertisements for african instant death and love potions. I'm pretty sure I also saw an advertisement for the illuminati. I hadn't realised they recruited members through dead internet forums..
Being serious though, what happened with tapatalk? Is the UI on that site so terrible it caused the forum to disband completely, or had it been declining before?

Bit of both. I joined the original MGSF in 2006 on the hype train for MGS4. Stuck around more for the community than anything. MGS4 came and went and with the series wrapped up people started leaving due to things in life like jobs, school, and families. Then MGSV was announced and we got a small injection of life from that hype. Ground Zeroes was announced in 2013 and by that point in the 2010s, social media sites like Reddit and so on had kinda taken over more traditional internet forums so it wasn't as big as the MGS4 hype train. Then once MGSV came and went we had a dilemma since Kojima was no longer at Konami and Konami didn't seem to want to do anything with their IPs except turn them into pachinko machines. Seemed like no new games were coming and even if one did, most newcomers to the series would just join the MGS subreddit. So it was in decline as far as new members joining and old ones leaving or not being near as active as they were in their teens and twenties. We still had a solid core of people, as the dommunity tended to be our strength.
Then Tappa came along one day in 2018 and sucked up all the internet forums that Zetaboards had been hosting and the site became broken beyond repair really. It took a lot of effort for me to even log in, they wanted a seperate Tappa account, and as you've seen the UI is atrocious. That kinda killed things since I doubt people could even log in. Since then, we've tried a few revivials and I'm hoping this one sticks around. There's something about interent forums that Reddit just can't match.
If you have any questions on MGSF lore, ask away.

Thanks for clearing this up for me

. I'm sure I'll have some questions on the lore of mgsf, considering I'm probably one of the few people here that wasn't on the original forum, but i'm afraid my sleep-deprived brain can't think of any at the moment.
