And not just for my own personal taste, but for generational/demographic reasons too. Are Disney animated films that relevant any more?
Short answer is yeah they are. Inside Out 2 is one of the top 10 highest grossing films ever right now, and even films that don’t necessarily register much on my radar like Moana 2 seem to make waves. But KH does now potentially have access to Marvel and Star Wars which are obviously relevant to an older audience. I don’t really feel too keen to see them in KH for whatever reason-it’s hard to articulate why in a way that doesn’t just sound like I’m being a purist but properties they’ve purchased just feels different to me. Theres lots of recent Disney films I’d like to see made into worlds without them creeping out into the acquisitions.
Also I’m a big fan of the original KH stuff buuut at the end of the day the series started as this crazy crossover and it’s a big part of the magic for me. In some ways it feels like a relic of a bygone era where that was novel as these days everything has crossovers with everything in a way that largely feels soulless. KH drew me in with the Disney stuff and I do feel like it’s integral even if over time the KH stuff becomes more important. But I definitely don’t want any worlds like Frozen in KH3 where it’s mostly a retelling of the events of the film.
I don't think the Disney stuff will ever be dropped given the worlds based on its worlds are the basis for such a large part of each game. But its significance does feel like it is dwindling a bit in places with the poor efforts at Frozen and Big Hero 6.
I will say I initially didn't care to see stuff like Star Wars in it, but I actually think it might freshen things up a bit now. I think Endor has to be happening after that snippet in the old trailer that looked very close to it. It also gives us a new range of potential villains with more significance than merely within their own worlds (in the vein of Maleficent), although given where the main plot has gone I'm not too sure they'll bother with it. I'd really like to see FF characters starting to come back into significance but I think that ship was getting set to sail a long time ago and has far surpassed the horizon with the Verum Rex stuff.
Yeah Endor does seem likely from that stuff. Honestly I may come around to it as a Star Wars fan I just feel like the “intended scope” of a crossover bleeding out can ruin it sometimes like with Wreck it Ralph 2 suddenly just being jampacked with everything Disney owned compared to the first film. (Wreck it Ralph World please)

I agree, although to be fair I think the Disney influence has been fairly restrained in recent titles and hasn't gotten out of hand so I'd hope even with SW it'd be the same. No need to go overboard in terms of characters.
